New welcome panel for St Maurice
Plympton’s Stannator, Rose Hambly, has unveiled a new welcome panel at the western end of the village. The panel stands in a small patch of ground on Dark Street Lane by the Long Brook bridge. The ground had been untended for many years until John Hunt set about to tidy it up and create an attractive entrance to the conservation area.
The panel depicts three quintessential elements of Plympton St Maurice: the Guildhall, the oldest surviving Civic building in Plymouth; the old Grammar School established at the bequest of Elize Hele; and the life and works of Sir Joshua Reynolds.
John thanked the many people who contributed toward the project and the talent of the students at Plymouth Art College who created the panel. Rose thanked John on behalf of the local community for his efforts and commitment to deliver this project.
